Our Year 9 students recently had the invaluable opportunity to take part in first aid training, covering both theory and practical skills. The session was led by our very own Miss Hobson Woodhead, a former combat medic who now works at AKS.
At the end of the training, Miss Hobson Woodhead presented students with their certificates of competence, and Ben B gave a heartfelt vote of thanks. Learning first aid is a crucial life skill—one that could save the life of a family member, friend, or even a stranger, provided the appropriate safeguards are in place.
With over 30,000 cardiac arrests occurring in the UK each year and a survival rate of just 1 in 10, early intervention through CPR and the use of a defibrillator can significantly improve outcomes. Watching Year 9 put their skills into practice gives us great hope that teaching first aid in schools will contribute to increasing survival rates in the future.
A huge thank you to Miss Hobson Woodhead for sharing her expertise and making this possible!
