On Wednesday, Year 8 students stepped back in time with an educational visit to Quarry Bank Mill in Styal, deepening their understanding of the Industrial Revolution. This immersive trip allowed them to explore Styal village, built by the Gregg family, and witness firsthand how the mill was powered by both water and steam.
Students saw the formidable machines in action and even took on roles such as scavenger, carrier, and piecer—tasks once performed by young apprentices in harsh conditions. By the end of the day, they had gained a newfound appreciation for their own education, realising that school life is far preferable to the grueling experience of a mill worker.
Year 8 left Quarry Bank Mill not only with enhanced knowledge but also with a deeper appreciation for the past and the progress made since.
