Congratulations to the Year 12 DofE students have just returned from a challenging expedition over the weekend in the Dentdale area of the Yorkshire Dales. On Saturday we walked over mixed terrain to the summit of Whernside, which tested students’ navigation and endurance skills, as the ascent was very steep with strong gusts of wind towards the summit. The reward was enjoying lunch huddled behind a wall at the top of Whernside enjoying the fantastic views across the three peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales.
The unseasonal weather continued on Sunday when we walked a circular route from the village of Dent towards Sedbergh, through the Dee valley returning back to Dent via Combe Scar. All groups walked at a good pace and practised working together to navigate the landscape. Although boggy in places, we all enjoyed the walk and the views over the village of Sedbergh to the Howgill mountains. We are now looking forward to the second practise expedition to the Lake District in June.
Well done to all the participants involved.
