Year 11 Geography Fieldwork: Investigating Lytham & the Sand Dunes

Under glorious blue skies on Thursday, March 20th, our Year 11 geography students took part in their required fieldwork, exploring two key locations—Lytham High Street and the sand dunes near school.

In the morning, students assessed the environmental quality of Lytham High Street, analyzing factors such as noise levels, street furniture, litter, and building conditions from Lowther Gardens to the hospital. This hands-on investigation helped them understand urban environmental quality in a real-world context.

The afternoon session shifted to the Fylde coastline, where students studied the hard and soft engineering strategies used to protect the area. They also examined whether the sand dunes followed the typical model in terms of vegetation cover and dune formation.

This valuable fieldwork experience provided essential data for their GCSE Geography exam, giving students practical insights into key geographical concepts. Well done to all involved!
