Earth Day Celebrations – Our Power and Our Planet

In our Earth Day assembly this morning, we listened to brave and enthusiastic groups of children from across the whole Prep School as they shared the wonderful eco-projects they’ve been involved in.

This year’s Earth Day theme, "Our Power, Our Planet," was introduced by our Year 5 children, who explained its meaning clearly and confidently. Year 6 and Year 4 pupils helped us understand the differences between fossil fuels and green energy sources in an accessible and engaging way.

A key message of this year’s theme is that each of us has the power to make a difference — even small changes can improve the health of our planet and, ultimately, our own well-being.

Year 4 shared some shocking statistics about the rate of ice melting around the world, while Year 3 offered lovely ideas for creating insect-friendly gardens. Our infant children proudly showed the plants they’ve been growing to support caterpillars, butterflies, and bees. They also demonstrated how to make a bird feeder using pine cones and reminded us all to save energy by turning things off when they’re not in use.

Thank you, children, for your thoughtful advice and inspiring information.

What small change can you make today?
