Following a fantastic reception two years ago, Sky Blue Theatre Company returned to AKS to work with students in Years 8 and 9. Each year group was treated to a two-hour interactive session in which the plotlines, characters and genres of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and ‘Macbeth’ were explored. Students were given to the opportunity to take roles in each play, working alongside the classically trained actors who hail from The Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre, The Globe and The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
Following their successful telling of each story, students were then invited to consider ways in which two significant scenes might be directed. The contributions made by both Year 8 and Year 9 demonstrated their appreciation for Shakespeare and the necessities required for successful comedy and tragedy. As Shakespeare assessments approach towards the end of term, we do hope these workshops will prove beneficial.
