AKS Girls Cricketers Shine as Teams Reach North Lancashire Finals

The future of girls' cricket at AKS Lytham looks brighter than ever, as both the Under-13 and Under-15 teams have progressed through the local round of the Lancashire Cup and into the North Lancashire Finals at Bolton Arena in March. This outstanding achievement highlights the growing strength of the school’s cricket programme and the exceptional talent of its players.

Guided by the expert coaching team at AKS, the girls have shown remarkable skill and determination to progress through the competition. With many players also developing their talents at local cricket clubs, the teams have demonstrated a high level of technical ability and teamwork on their journey to the finals.

The AKS Girls showcased their skills, taking the game on with positivity and playing a fun and enjoyable brand of cricket. Several standout performances have been pivotal in securing success. Sadie A  and Penny A  have led the bowling attack with precision and consistency, proving to be key figures in dismantling opposition batting line-ups. Meanwhile, with the bat, Sophia T, Charlotte R, and Alyssa W  have delivered impressive innings, showcasing their composure and aggressive stroke play under pressure.

The success of the AKS girls' teams is a testament to the school's exceptional cricket programme, which was recently recognised in The Cricketer magazine as one of the Top 100 Cricket Schools in the UK. Under the leadership of  Director of Cricket, Liam Castellas, AKS Lytham has built a reputation for excellence in elite coaching and cricket development in the North West. The school’s commitment to promoting girls’ cricket has played a crucial role in fostering a culture of excellence and opportunity, ensuring that young female cricketers have the platform to thrive, evidenced by an array of trophies including the Lancashire Cup. AKS Assistant Coach Antony Wilson was thrilled for the girls “The girls cricket teams have played extremely well this week. The girls have been working extremely hard in their winter cricket sessions, so it’s great to see them continue to see their development carry through to their performances”

With the North Lancashire Finals fast approaching, the teams are now fully focused on their preparations, eager to continue their remarkable run in the competition. Their progress is a shining example of the strength of girls’ sport at AKS, and with their talent, dedication, and the expert guidance of the coaching team, the future of cricket at the school has never looked more promising.

All eyes will be on Bolton Arena in March as these talented squads look to take the next step in their Lancashire Cup journey. One thing is certain—AKS girls’ cricket is going from strength to strength, and the best is yet to come.
